Mass disk encryption – BitLocker
How to secure internal and external drives in an organization?
What is BitLocker encryption?
It’s a tool that’s built into Microsoft’s operating system. It allows you to secure data by encrypting both external (USB) and internal (HDD) drives. The BitLocker function is based on an encryption algorithm that secures access to sensitive data on mobile devices and internal drives. The BitLocker function can be used on all Windows computers. BitLocker protects against unauthorized access to encrypted data located on devices and computers in the organization.
BitLocker in eAuditor system
BitLocker functionality in eAuditor system enables secure disk encryption by connecting the Agent to Microsoft’s BitLocker API. It allows IT administrators to take a mass inventory of USB drives and encrypt and decrypt drives with the touch of a button in the console. In addition, the system reports on the security status of hard drives and USB drives. When starting the encryption procedure in the eAuditor system, additional authentication must be entered using a user-designated password. It is worth noting that the way to protect computers and drives is arbitrary. It is possible to protect with a password, a card, a PIN, or using several components simultaneously. The system also allows temporary security management. eAuditor makes it possible to remotely disable and enable security without performing the encryption and decryption procedure. In addition, the administrator can perform all these actions remotely from the console. The BitLocker functionality in the eAuditor system is additionally equipped with a TPM module. This ensures that the recovery (decryption) key is stored securely in the eAuditor system database.
Why encrypt your drives using BitLocker?
Disk encryption with BitLocker functionality is an important element in an organization to maintain adequate IT security. BitLocker functionality enables:
- use of a proven encryption method through integration with Microsoft’s BitLocker API – this gives the administrator the confidence that his data is properly secured,
- increase the level of information security on USB drives – this puts the security of mobile devices, which are susceptible to loss or theft, under control,
- reducing the risk of data leakage – by securing both external and internal drives, the risk of potential leakage of confidential information is significantly reduced,
- blocking unencrypted external drives – BitLocker functionality allows you to block the connection of external devices, including those that have not been encrypted,
- access to encryption keys from any device – BitLocker disk encryption allows access to encryption keys from a tablet, computer and phone.
